Why Is My Blendtec Smoking?

A blender is bought to crush, blend, and mix your ingredients. But it is never bought for it to smoke. Typically, smoking from a kitchen appliance like your Blendtec blender can be quite dangerous. Perhaps your blender is always smoking when using it. I can imagine how scared you’d be when it is emitting smoke.  Let’s find out the reason in this blog post.

Why Is My Blendtec Smoking?

  • Worn-out brushes.
  • Cracked seal.
  • Spoilt couplings.
  • Stuck blades.
  • High voltage.
  • Overloaded motor.

Worn-out brushes

Contents

The brushes are found in the blender’s motor, and it passes electricity in the motor for it to power on. Once it is damaged, the motor will begin to overwork itself causing the blender to smoke.

When the motor is unscrewed and the brushes are brought out, you’d see them in the form of an arc which means they are worn out. However, you can only get this changed if you are an expert.

Cracked seal

The seal’s initial purpose is to stop the liquid from your blender jar from entering the blender base. It is found in between your blender’s blade assembly and the below part of the blender jar.

When it is cracked it will begin to release liquids or powder into the blender’s couplings, then into the motor which will cause your Blendtec blender to emit smoke. That being said, if you are dealing with cracked seals you have to stop using the blender immediately to prevent any more damage.

Spoilt couplings

The couplings are connected to the blade assembly. This means if you overwork the blades, it would have an effect on the couplings. Although the couplings receive electrical power from the blender’s base to the blade.

However, if the couplings get damaged due to overworking your blades or spilled oil due to a cracked seal, your Blendtec blender will smoke.

Stuck blades

The blades are connected to your blender pitcher, and they have the capacity they can carry. Your blades shouldn’t work under strenuous strain, it will show a sign of overwork by smoking.

High voltage

Depending on your country, if you bought your Blendtec from a different country, the voltage your country uses might be too high for your blender to carry.

When the voltage is high, it can cause your Blendtec blender to smoke and if you keep using it, it will damage eventually. However, it is advisable to confirm from Blendtec customer service about the inter-country use of the blender you are ordering.

Overloaded motor

First thing first, if your blender is overloaded, the motor will overwork causing it to overheat. Being the kind of blender Blendtec is, once the motor begins to overheat, it can cause it to emit smoke or it will break down completely. In addition, using your blender frequently can make it emit smoke.

How do I stop my Blendtec from smoking?

If your Blendtec is emitting both a burning smell along with smoke, you have to do something to stop the smoke. So, I’d be guiding you on how to stop your Blendtec from smoking.

Below are the ways you can stop your Blendtec from smoking.

  1. Change the seal.
  2. Get new brushes.
  3. Reduce the number of ingredients.
  4. Run your Blendtec at a low speed.
  5. Clean it.
  6. Change the couplings.
  7. Call the customer care service.

1. Change the seal

As aforementioned, the cracked seal is the culprit that’s releasing the oil, powder, or water from the blender jar to the motor which is causing your Blendtec to smoke. So, you can stop the smoke by altering the seal.

Below are the steps you need to change your blender’s seal:

Step 1- Purchase a new seal that matches your Blendtec blender.

Step 2- Unlock your blender pitcher from the blender’s base.

Step 3- Remove the blade assembly from the blender pitcher.

Step 4- Take out the damaged seal.

Nb– Do not forget the position of the seal while removing the damaged one. It is in between the agitator and the blender pitcher.

Step 5- Then, put the new seal and put back the blade assembly.

2. Get new brushes

If you find out that the brushes in the motor are the reason why your blender is smoking, you have two options to take.

Option 1

You can either buy new brushes. After buying the brushes, you have to unscrew the motor, take out the old brushes, and put in the new ones you bought. But note that some of the brushes do not work perfectly with the Blendtec blender.

Option 2

Or, you can buy a new motor from the Blendtec brand that can work for your blender pitcher.

Note– You have to purchase the motor from the Blendtec brand, so you can be assured you are purchasing the right one.

3. Reduce the quantity of your ingredients

The only reason why your blades or blade assembly can get stuck is if you overfill the pitcher. As you know, stuck blades can cause your Blendtec to smoke. If you notice that the stuck blades are the reason why your blender is smoking, ensure you reduce the quantity of the ingredients you grind.

Now, if you have been grinding 3 cups of your ingredients, you can reduce it to 1 and a half cups or 1 cup. It’s best to take time while grinding your ingredients than to grind all the ingredients at once and have your blender damaged.

4. Run your Blendtec at low speed

Overworking your Blendtec can cause it to smoke. In this case, if your Blendtec is on high speed, your blender will smoke. So, to prevent your blender from smoking, you have to run it at a low speed.

Especially if you are dealing with hot items like sauce, it is advisable to run the Blendtec at a low speed. This will help your blender resist any form of smoke that might want to emit from it.

5. Clean it

Maintenance goes a long way when it comes to appliances. When an appliance is not maintained, it will malfunction. But if it is well-maintained (note- well-maintained not just maintained), it will never malfunction or even smoke.

In other words, cleaning your Blendtec blender can stop it from smoking. When cleaning it, clean any grease that is on it and other parts with dust or dirt in it. But note, when cleaning your motor be careful not to let any moisture penetrate it.

6. Change the couplings

In most cases, the couplings are usually the problem and if yours is like that, the only way you can stop the effect (which is smoking) is to change the couplings. You can change your couplings by doing the below.

Step 1

Purchase new couplings from the Blendtec brand. Ensure you let the customer care official know your blender edition, so you can be guided on which one you can purchase.

Step 2

Get a screwdriver and use it to unscrew the damaged couplings in your blender.

If you are wondering where the couplings are, it was positioned on top of your Blendtec blender’s base. The part that allows your pitcher to lock well with the base.

Step 3

Make sure that there is no metal remains from the old couplings on the spindle before you put the new one. So, you can do that by cleaning the spindle.

Step 4

Once you notice that the spindle is metal-free, you can use the screwdriver to screw the new couplings on the spindle in a counter-clockwise movement.

7. Call the customer care service

If after trying all the methods and none of them stops your Blendtec blender from smoking, I would recommend that you reach out to the brand’s customer care service. You have to let them know that you have tried all the possible and advisable steps to stop smoking but it didn’t work.

Seeing the number of years of warranty your Blendtec has, the repair, refund, and replacement of the faulty blender will be covered. The only time you’d have to pay money for repair is if the blender’s warranty is overdue.
