Why Does Ninja Blender Smell Like Burning Plastic?

  • Damaged O ring gasket.
  • Burnt or worn-out brushes.
  • Blunt blades.
  • Overheating motor.
  • Damaged couplings.
  • The jar is empty.

Above are the reasons why your Ninja blender smells like burning plastic. These reasons will further be explained before for better understanding.

Damaged O ring gasket

Contents

One reason why your Ninja blender smells like burning plastic every time is that the O ring gasket is damaged. This happens when you are trying to blend any hard ingredients such as ice in your ninja blender. Whilst it will affect the blades, it will damage the ring gasket by breaking it.

As you know, the O ring gasket is used to seal your ingredients in the jar, not letting them go into the motor. But if it is damaged, the ingredients will begin to leak into your blender motor, damaging some of the parts on the motor.

Burnt or worn out brushes

These brushes are located in the blender’s motor and it passes electricity to the motor for it to run. When this brush is burnt, it will begin to smell and when you bring it out, it will be in the form of an arc to show that it’s damaged.

One reason why these brushes will get burnt is due to the high voltage in your country. Another reason is due to leakage caused by the broken seal in your blender (O ring gasket). The brushes in your motor are very vital components and once they are damaged, a lot of things will begin to go wrong in your blender.

Blunt blades

Blunt blades can be caused by the ingredients you grind. Usually, the blades in a ninja blender are always sharp, and would eventually go blunt. Once they are blunt and you keep using them, they will begin to smell like they are burning.

Not to forget, the blades function due to the help of some components in the motor. This means the blade can affect those components and vice versa. If you keep using the blunt blades, it can or will damage the O ring gasket and the ingredients will begin to leak into the motor damaging some parts.

Overheating motor

The way you use your blender matters and could affect a lot of things in it. When the motor of your ninja blender is overheating, it will begin to smell like burning plastic.

An overheating motor can be caused by using the blender nonstop without any breakdown in between. Not to forget, without the motor, you cannot crush or blend anything with your blades or jar.

Damaged couplings

Almost all the blender that smells like burning plastic is usually caused by damaged couplings. This part of the blender is made with plastic and is often affected by the blades. If the blades are overloaded, the couplings will start burning or smelling like burning plastic.

The jar is empty

Finally, on my list, your ninja blender is smelling like burning plastic because you’re operating it while the blender jar is empty. Firstly, you shouldn’t let your blender work when the pitcher is empty.

You’d not only damage the blades, but the jar would also be affected, and some other compartments will not function properly.

After discovering the fault, you have to change it so the burning plastic smell can stop.

i. O ring gasket

If it is the O ring gasket that is faulty, you can change it by doing the below.

Step 1

Buy a new O ring gasket (also known as a seal). Ensure the O ring gasket is for the edition of the ninja blender you have.

Step 2

Unlock the pitcher from the blender’s base and remove the blade assembly below the blender’s pitcher.

Step 3

Remove the damaged O ring gasket. Ensure you remember the arrangements while taking out the blender components.

Step 4

Put the new O ring gasket you bought and add the blade assembly too.

ii. Motor brushes

If you unscrew the motor and find out the motor brushes are burnt, you will have to change it.

Step 1

Buy new motor brushes from ninja.

Step 2

Unscrew the motor.

Step 3

Bring out the burnt brushes.

Step 4

Put the new brushes and screw back the motor.

Nb– Most times, it is advisable that you buy a new motor instead of buying new brushes. This is because you might not get the right motor brushes. Then, you’d have to keep changing it every time. Plus, if you are not an expert, it is not advisable that you loosen the motor yourself.

iii. Blunt blades

If you find out the blades are blunt, you have to get new blades before the smell can stop. You can change the blades by doing the below.

Step 1

Purchase a new blade assembly from ninja.

Step 2

Remove the blender jar from the base.

Step 3

Unscrew the blade assembly and add the new one you purchased.

iv. Motor

If you discover that the motor of your ninja blender is overheating, stop using it for at least a few days. The reason why it is overheating is that you have been using the blender nonstop. So, it’s time you let it take a rest.

If it continues to overheat after letting it rest for a few days, then you will have to buy a new motor or a new ninja blender. All the same, let the ninja customer care official know about the fault.

v. Couplings

Perhaps you found out that the couplings of the blender are the reason why your blender is smelling like burning plastic, you don’t need to panic. All you need to do is have it changed. You can change the couplings by doing the following.

Step 1

Check the ninja website for couplings (also known as coupler) that matches your blender and purchase it.

Step 2

Get a screwdriver and use it to unscrew the burnt coupler on the blender’s base.

The coupler was positioned on the blender’s base and it allows your blender pitcher to lock up with the base perfectly.

Step 3

Clean the spindle on the base to ensure there are no metal bits from the burnt coupler you unscrewed.

Step 4

After cleaning the metals on the spindle, you can put the new couplet and screw it back in a counter-clockwise movement.

vi. Put something in the blender jar

If your ninja blender is smelling like burning plastic because the jar is empty, turn it off immediately.

Remove the jar from the base and let the blender rest for a while before filling it with the ingredients you want to blend or crush. Under no circumstances will you turn on your blender without putting anything in it.
